All horses are very much individuals, requiring different training techniques at different times by an experienced and competent professional trainer. The “Pyramid of Training” is a requirement for physical development through progressive training, and I believe it’s very important for the horses’ happiness, health and longevity to build upon each objective; Rhythm, Relaxation, Connection, Impulsion, Straightness and Collection. There are no shortcuts, and tricks should never be used, to keep a happy, well developed and enjoyable horse.

You can’t skip steps, use tricks or take shortcuts to train a competitive horse that will rise through the levels and be sound. The inefficiencies in training will always show up at some point; either in low show scores in the mid levels, and/or in the horse’s health and soundness. Within the levels of training I am always open to perfecting the ‘tried-and-true’ training techniques; as well as being open minded to new methods that have a foundation in Classical Dressage.

“It is always exciting and humbling for me as a trainer to learn from other trainers as well as the horses. I am constantly learning from each horse I train.”

Flexibility in training programs is the key to a horse and rider’s success, you must listen to each horse individually.

Continually seeking new training methods, which are built around the Pyramid of Training principles, is most important and allows my horses and students to succeed. I am always learning from horses, and I take every opportunity to ride, learn and train with the best.

It doesn’t matter what saddle or bit you use, or what horse you’re riding, the basic principles of dressage are always the most important and allows me to build the horse from back to front.
